Today, I’d like to introduce you tangram——a Chinese ancient traditional intellectual game.
The tangram is a dissection puzzle consisting of seven flat shapes, called tans, which are put together to form shapes. The objective of the puzzle is to form a specific shape (given only an outline or silhouette) using all seven pieces, which may not overlap. It is reputed to have been invented in China during the Song Dynasty, and then carried over to Europe by trading ships in the early 19th century. It became very popular in Europe for a time then, and then again during World War I. Nowadays, it is one of the most popular dissection puzzles in the world.
People think tangram can teach children about spatial relationships. It may help kids learn geometric terms and develop stronger problem solving skills. It might even help children perform better in general mathematics. Arranged correctly, the shapes can be fitted together as a large square, rectangle, or triangle. It can also be arranged in a variety of complex shapes. And also playing with tangrams might change the way children think.
Children's Day is coming soon, why not buy your children tangram as a gift?
